Gearing Up For Summer!

An early and seasonable Spring on the Vineyard is not something we are able to enjoy every year. This year has been different, however, and the flowering trees have been magnificent and the new green foliage vibrant. There were even May afternoons spent at the baseball field without winter coats, hats and gloves! All signs point to a warm and sunny summer and we can’t wait for the first swim of the season!

All the towns are hives of activity, with repaving, repainting and window washing projects being completed to ready the island for our summer visitors. Already, foot traffic on the boats has shown a marked increase and the outlook among business people is upbeat.

Real estate sales have picked up considerably in the first quarter of 2010 and all signs indicate that we are finally coming out of the woods. Many folks who had not been able to afford Vineyard real estate in the past have been able to purchase homes in the past six months. We have so enjoyed being able to help people finally achieve their dream of owning “a piece of the Rock”! There are still many good buys available but as demand increases, we expect to see real estate values begin to increase.

Today’s MV Times reports the first of the season’s pinkletinks have been spotted off Lambert’s Cove Road. The temperatures have reached 64 degrees, cricus and daffodils are bravely peeking through the garden and the Dairy Queen is open!

We’ve noticed a spike in real estate sales activity this summer. With our Commander-in-Chief about to land (and hopefully get a good vacation of rest and recreation, which the Vineyard specializes in!) we have been showing our listings more often and are negotiating several offers. Another agent reported multiple competing offers on one of her listings - could this be the upswing we’ve been waiting for? The weather has improved and the market is very affordable.

Although we have more inventory available now than in the past, good quality homes in excellent locations are still hard to find.
